Another Russian general has reportedly been killed by Ukrainian forces
Ukrainian authorities claim they have killed yet another Russian general near the city of Izyum in the northeastern region of Kharkiv.
Major General Andrei Simonov, 55, was killed in an artillery strike on a field command post of the Russian 2nd Army, the Kyiv Post reports.
He was a graduate of the Tomsk Higher Military Command School of Communications and was seen as Russia’s military leading electronics warfare specialist.
Oleksiy Arestovych, one of President Zelenskyy’s advisors, told a YouTube livestream that around 100 Russian servicemen were killed in the strike as well.
More than 30 Russian armoured vehicles were reportedly also destroyed.
Along with the nine generals, Putin has lost 36 colonels in just over two months of fighting in Ukraine, the Evening Standard reports.
The Russian military has experienced its biggest loss of senior figures since World War II.
On April 30, using signals intelligence, Ukrainian defenders targeted and destroyed a command post of the Russian fascist invaders near temporarily-occupied Izyum. April 30, 2022This latest Ukrainian offensive is another setback for Putin and his invasion.
It is thought that the Russian leader wants to be able declare the success of the invasion of Ukraine on May 9. This is Victory Day in Russia, and marks the anniversary of the country’s victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.
Because of this, there are fears that Russia will step up its offensive and efforts in the country ahead of this date.
In its latest update, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry said it had now killed an estimated 23,500 Russian troops, destroyed 1,026 tanks and wrecked nearly 200 planes since the war began.
