Your friendly reminder to get it sorted in time – or face a £1,000 fine
Motorists are being urged to make sure they get their expiring driving licenses renewed by the end of the month if they want to avoid a hefty £1,000 fine.
As of today (September 29), drivers have two more days to renew their licence if it expired between February 1 and December 31 2020, with the end-of-September deadline for renewal right around the corner.
In the wake of the pandemic last year, the DVLA gave an 11-month coronavirus extension to UK driving licenses – but that period is now coming to end. Should you be nearing your expiry date and fail to get it updated in time, you could be issued a £1,000 fine.
For instance, if your licence was due to expire in October 2020, your time to renew it would be in September 2021.
According to the Daily Record, the DVLA has warned there is a 10-week delay on new licences but motorists can continue driving if they receive confirmation that their application is being processed.
This isn’t the only timely reminder put out this week, as Brits have also been made aware of the recent number plate changes needed should you want to drive across Europe.
In case you don’t know, all you need to do to renew your driving license is to go on the gov.uk website, head to the Post Office or post your application to the DVLA directly. Get it done folks!
