Ed Sheeran’s music best at sending dogs to sleep, study finds

Charlie Herbert

Dogs can’t help but nod off when they hear Ed Sheeran’s melodies

Research has found that one of Ed Sheeran’s new singles is the most calming song to help send dogs to sleep.

Hillarys analysed the top sleep playlists on Spotify to find the songs and music that are best at helping our canine companions nod off and they found that Ed Sheeran’s acoustic song “The Joker and the Queen” was the most popular.

The research was conducted to celebrate World Sleep Day on March 18 and found that Taylor Swift and John Mayer were the second and third best artists for dogs to sleep to, respectively.

In general, the most relaxing sounds for dogs were acoustic and instrumental ones.

This is probably good to know if you’ve recently added a puppy to your family, as they can need as much as 18-20 hours of sleep a day.

Carolyn Menteith, a behaviourist from Tails.com, told TeamDogs: “In other words, more than 80 per cent of their day should be spent sleeping. Sounds like heaven to me!”

Sleep helps to convert all that puppy energy into growth along with physical and mental development.

So a puppy who is not getting enough sleep will not develop as well, may have a less robust immune system and could struggle to learn or remember things.

Hillarys also looked at which artists were best at sending us humans off to sleep, with The Weeknd, Drake and One Direction making up the top three spots.

The solution next time you need to calm down your excitable puppy then? Stick on some Ed Sheeran.
