They have already identified a number of candidates

The FA have advertised for Gareth Southgate’s replacement on their website with the closing date set for 2 August 2024.

The job advert for the England Men’s Senior Team Head Coach states: “We are currently overseeing a highly targeted process to appoint the next Head Coach of the England Men’s Senior Team.

“Our succession planning process has already identified a number of candidates; in addition to this we are committed to open recruitment processes in the football industry and are interested in hearing from individuals who meet the following criteria.”

The successful candidate needs to hold a UEFA Pro License and have significant experience of English football and a proven track record in the Premier League or in international competitions.

The FA is hoping the successful candidate already has experience in identifying, managing and developing English qualified players.

A number of candidates who have previously been linked with the job would fit the description set out on the website including Pep Guardiola, Eddie Howe and Graham Potter.

The job description goes on to describe the role, outlining their expectations of the next manager saying: “The will lead and develop the England senior men’s team to win a major tournament and be consistently ranked as one of the top teams in the world.”

It goes on to remind candidates of the pressure that comes with the job as it adds that applicants should be ‘highly resilient and comfortable in a very high-profile role with intense public scrutiny.’

Gareth Southgate was criticised by the media and booed by fans enroute to the Euros final, further highlighting the pressure that lies ahead for the prospective new coach.
