A female zookeeper has been killed by a tiger at Hamerton Zoo Park in Cambridgeshire.
According to reports, the animal entered the enclosure while the keeper was inside although no further details have been made available as of yet.
Cambridge Police issued the following Twitter posts after the terrible accident:
We attended an incident at Hamerton Zoo Park today. We are unable further info at this time but we can confirm that no animals have escaped.

Update Hamerton Zoo Park: A keeper sadly died when a tiger entered the enclosure with her. At no point did the tiger escape from enclosure.

The Independent reports that social media posts originally suggested that the tiger had escaped, with police eager to reassure the public that this was not the case.
It is believed that the zoo was particularly busy as today is a bank holiday in the UK but all visitors were safely evacuated by staff.
