Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton has challenged Gary Lineker to a live TV debate about Brexit after the pair clashed on Twitter.
The spat began when Shilton praised Jacob Rees-Mogg’s recent interviews around Brexit, and Lineker responded by quoting his tweet with the witty response: “What’s that old saying? You should never see a tweet from your heroes?”

Shilton then challenged Lineker to a debate, tagging the remain voting former footballer Peter Reid and the passionate Brexiteer Chris Waddle.

It’s extremely unlikely to happen, but it would surely be a much more entertaining, and possibly more informative debate than any between Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn.
Lineker couldn’t resist responding to Shilton’s challenge by saying “for your sake, I hope it doesn’t go to penalties,” referencing Shilton’s bad luck with England in penalty shoot-outs. Bad luck which Lineker shared, though obviously, he wasn’t in goal.
