A helicopter has crash-landed on the roof of a skyscraper in New York, according to authorities.
The New York City Fire Department has responded to the scene on 7th Avenue in Manhattan, with one fatality, believed to be the pilot, reported by officials.
The incident took place at approximately 2pm, New York time.
A tweet issued by the New York City Fire Department confirms the fatality, noting that the fire has been extinguished.
“FDNY members remain on scene at 787 7th Avenue in Manhattan, helicopter crash into building,” said the statement.
“The fire has been extinguished.
“There is currently one fatality reported.”

The Associated Press noted that the helicopter appears to have crash-landed on the top of the tower, near Rockafeller Centre and Times Square.
Governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters that a fire began when the aircraft initially hit but is now under control.
Cuomo said that it shook the building.
It is not yet known what type of helicopter was involved in the crash.

US President Donald Trump has been briefed by the White House regarding the incident.
