Police say the incident in Paris is not being treated as terror-related
It’s understood that two Britons have been stabbed in Paris as a man went on a rampage with a knife and iron bar.
French media are reporting that one of the tourists was stabbed in the chest and the other in the head.
The suspect, a man reportedly of Afghan origin, attacked seven people in the north of the French capital at around 11pm on Sunday evening – four of whom are seriously injured but in a condition that is not considered life threatening.
Citing a judicial source, Reuters said there was “no initial sign” the attack was terror-related.
The Foreign Office said: “We are urgently investigating this incident and are in close contact with the French authorities.”
A security guard working on the Canal de l’Ourcq said he saw a man being chased by two others who tried to stop him.
“He had an iron bar in his hand which he threw at the men chasing him, then he took out a knife,” he said, according to AFP.
