‘There goes Piers Morgan, must remember to thank him one day’
Piers Morgan claims he has been contacted about potentially returning to Good Morning Britain in response to a slump in the show’s ratings.
Britain’s most expensive rent-a-gob left the show in March after he pushed the boundaries too far even for his bosses on GMB, as he accused Meghan Markle of lying about her mental health struggles in her interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Without his presence, fewer people have reportedly been tuning in for a generous dollop of toxic culture war debate to accompany their breakfast, and Morgan claims a third party has approached him to discuss a potential return in an attempt to arrest this slump in ratings.
“I have had some quite random third-party feelers put out to see if I would consider a return to the show,” he told the Sun.
“I don’t want to say on the record who, but a pretty close third-party.
“As the Americans say, they reached out — there have been approaches to test the water in the wake of their obvious ratings issues.
“It makes me sad to see all the hard work we did to beat the BBC in viewing numbers evaporate so fast.
“It’s their problem to work out … but never say never.”
