Footage shows members of the public attempting to stop the driver using shopping trolleys and a metal bar
Hertfordshire police have launched a manhunt after two people were injured when suspected thieves smashed through parked cars and drove directly at pedestrians while attempting to escape from a Tesco supermarket on Sunday.
In footage posted on social media, pedestrians are heard screaming and shouting for the driver and their passenger to “get out of the car” as the vehicle speeds dangerously in the direction of onlookers.
Passersby used shopping trolleys and a metal bar to hit the vehicle – thought to have be a hire car – but were unable to stop the driver who fled the scene of the incident.
It is thought that the driver and passenger were involved in an incident inside the store moments before the collision, where a person was challenged by the store’s security after attempting to steal alcohol.

The incident occurred at 1.57pm on December 23 at Tesco store in Harefield Road, Rickmansworth with police and ambulance services attending the scene.
One person was taken to hospital after sustaining a serious injury and another person sustained minor injuries.
“The vehicle – a blue Citroen C3, a hire car with a registration of KW18 HGK – did not stop, but left the scene,” a police statement said.
“Officers are continuing to work to locate the vehicle and its occupants.”
