The Watford striker posted screenshots to his story that call him ‘negro’ and ‘monkey’
Troy Deeney’s Watford progressed to the FA Cup final on Sunday, coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 after extra-time.
Deeney powered home a 94th minute penalty to save his side and provide them with 30 additional minutes to try and win the match.
It was a magical game.
In the aftermath, Watford’s captain has posted a series of stories detailing the racist abuse he has suffered since the semi-final victory.
The striker posted a series of screenshots to his story.
Deeney has also disabled comments on his Instagram account because of the abuse.
“Due to events from the last 24 hours I will be taking comments off my posts,” he said.
“To me, this isn’t a game. When you racially abuse my family or myself I have to take measures to prevent young people seeing these comments and thinking that it’s acceptable, and having to expose people I care about to these small-minded people.”

Other premier league players have also been racially abused this week. Wilfried Zaha, of Crystal Palace, was in the receiving end of racist language after winning a penalty against Newcastle that won Palace the game 1-0.
