We’re sure it will only be a brief disruption to its services, but it appears as if messaging service WhatsApp went offline on Friday morning.
Users attempting to send messages have reported being greeted with a timer symbol rather than the ticks that indicate when a message has been sent or received and, naturally enough, people are freaking out.

As of 8.40 on Friday morning, WhatsApp has issued no statement identifying what the problem might be, but there was a large spike in incidents reported on Website Down detector, particularly in Europe and Asia.
