A witness describes a ‘state of panic’ at Tulse Hill on Monday evening
Police officers tasered a man at Tulse Hill police station in south London on Monday evening.
An eye witness at the station said the man was holding a large knife before police intervened.
British Transport Police arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.
JOE employee Vikash Jasani, 33, was on a train at Tulse Hill at the time of the incident. He said: “I saw a woman running on to our carriage from nowhere in a clear state of panic.
“I looked out of the window on the train on my right and I could see a man wielding a machete walking across the platform bridge and people running down the platform.
“After a few seconds a number of police officers approached the man, tasered him and he went down straight away. Another two officers then approached as you can see in the pic.”
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Shortly after 6.30pm today (14/01) officers from British Transport Police and the Metropolitan Police were called to Tulse Hill station after reports of a man in possession of a knife.
“Police officers were quickly on scene and detained a man on the platforms at the station. During the detainment a Taser device was discharged.
“The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon, he is being taken to custody. There are no reported injuries.
“This incident is not currently believed to be terror related.”
