The Nottingham Trent University applicant suffered the consequences
Nottingham Trent University (NTU) has reportedly withdrawn an offer to a prospective student after they were caught filming racist abuse directed towards England players after the Euro 2020 final on Snapchat.
Video footage from a Snapchat group chat began circulating on Instagram, with one individual heard using racist language towards Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka. The trio has faced substantial torrents of truly horrific racial abuse after missing their penalties in the shootout at Wembley.
A spokesperson from Nottingham Trent University said: “We looked into this matter immediately and as a result have withdrawn an offer to an applicant.” They went on to clarify that the incident did “not involve a [current] NTU student”, before adding, “we do not tolerate any form of discrimination, including racism.”
Five people have now been arrested by authorities in connection to racist remarks directed towards England players following the disappointing defeat on Sunday. The calls for social media regulators to do more to stop this kind of online abuse continue to grow louder.
The PM revealed the government plans for stadium bans to be dished out to all those found guilty of racism online, with the social media companies in question set to face huge fines if they fail to properly combat the climate of online abuse.
