Vaccine passports are to be used for Euro 2020 matches at Wembley this summer, it has been announced.
The Times reports that fans attending the games at Wembley will have to show on the NHS app that they have received both doses of the vaccine at least 14 days before the event. Alternatively they will be able to use the usual method of providing proof that they have taken a negative Covid test within the previous 48 hours.
It will be the first time that a sporting event has required proof of attendees having had a vaccination.

There will be 22,500 people at each of England’s group matches, which are all being held at Wembley. These are against Croatia, Scotland and the Czech Republic. If the trial of so-called vaccine passports is successful then it could pave the way for larger attendances at later matches or events later on in the year, with those that have had both doses of the vaccine at far less risk from the virus and also less likely to pass it on.
For the huge clash between England and Scotland on 18 June, 2,600 Scots are set to travel down to London for the match. They will also have to show proof that they are Covid safe.
The UEFA website reads: “All ticket holders aged 11 and older must present evidence that they are at a low-risk of transmitting COVID-19 to enter Wembley Stadium. Failure to do so will mean you’re unable to attend the match.
“All ticket holders aged 11 and older must show evidence of one of the following to be allowed entry to Wembley Stadium:
- For ticket holders based in the UK: Proof of a negative Lateral Flow Test (LFT), reported and demonstrated via a text message or email from NHS Test and Trace. This can be on your device (including a screenshot) or a printout. The test needs to be taken within 48 hours of the time stadium gates open (meaning three hours before match kick-off).
- Or proof of full vaccination – both doses received at least 14 days prior to the match (demonstrated via the NHS App or via the Scottish or Welsh vaccination record services).”
