The culture secretary derided Rishi Sunak for wearing Prada shoes and an expensive suit
The MP for Guildford was forced to mute Nadine Dorries following a bizarre tweet about Rishi Sunak’s clobber.
Angela Richardson responded in dismay after the Culture Secretary compared the outfits of the two remaining Tory leadership candidates.
Dorries has backed Truss in the race, confirming her support for the Foreign Secretary in a televised address outside Number 10.
On Monday, Dorries ignored pleas to keep the contest civil by hitting out at Sunak’s expensive attire.
In a Twitter post, she retweeted a Daily Mail piece about the former Chancellor’s suit, saying: “Liz Truss will be travelling the country wearing her earrings which cost circa £4.50 from Claire Accessories. Meanwhile…
“Rishi visits Teeside in Prada shoes worth £450 and sported £3,500 bespoke suit as he prepared for crunch leadership vote.”

The tweet didn’t go down well with Angela Richardson, who said she had “muted” the Culture Secretary.
It also led to derision on social media, with James Felton saying the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture and Media will now be “looking up “muted” on Bing.”
Another person responded in the same vein, envisaging Dorries crying and yelling: “Why won’t you answer me anymore, Jeeves?!?”
