Opportunities for young musicians to grow their talent are few and far between
That’s what makes the Levi’s Music Project so exciting. Launched in 2015 in New York City in collaboration with Alicia Keys, the project sets out to break down the barriers to music education and give one-to-one training for promising young musicians from music’s biggest and brightest talents.
The project is now making its way to Liverpool, led by the Mercury Prize-nominated legend Loyle Carner. Over six months, Carner, alongside a line-up of industry experts, will lead sessions teaching everything from songwriting and performance techniques to building social media presence as an artist.
Speaking of the project, Carner said: “I am so proud to be part of the next Levi’s Music Project.
“It’s a programme that I’ve admired for a long time and something that really speaks to me as an artist. Giving young people a platform to be creative and have access to something they’d never have access to is wicked, there is not enough of that out there.
“To get to go back to Liverpool is also really exciting for me, it’s like my second home and it’s somewhere that I’ve taken so much inspiration from musically that I can’t wait to get into the studio with these guys and see what they have to say through their music!”
The Liverpool Levi’s Music Project takes place at Liverpool Lighthouse, right in the heart of Anfield. As part of Levi’s® partnership with Liverpool Football Club, of which Carner is a huge fan, students of the project will also receive support and input from the club throughout.
Previous Levi’s Music Project leaders include Everything Everything, Mist and Skepta.
