5 potential new Paul Pogba hairdos, inspired by footballers of the past

Simon Lloyd

Since moving to Juventus a few years back, Paul Pogba has proven that he’s bloody good at playing football.

But when the ridiculously-talented Frenchman isn’t smashing home an absolute thunderb*stard of a shot from 30 yards or making some poor defender look like they’ve downed six pints as they try to deal with his dazzling footwork, Pogba loves nothing more than messing around with his hairdo.

For all his on-field feats, it seems Pogba is just as likely to generate a headline for his extravagantly-coiffed barnet.

Although we’ve seen all sorts of imaginative creations appear on his head in recent months, lately it seems like he’s really been scraping the barrel for ideas (especially when he decided to shave a f**king minion into the side of his head).

If you’re reading this Paul, don’t you worry. After a brief skim through football’s not-too-distant past, we’ve unearthed five hairstyles you might wish to draw inspiration from the next time you head to the barbers.

Thanks to these five badly-photoshopped images, here’s a glimpse at how Pogba might look in the weeks ahead. This really is cutting-edge journalism at its finest.

David Beckham (circa 2002)

No stranger himself to the odd change in hairstyle once in a while, David Beckham’s boy band look emerged out of the aftermath of his dyed World Cup fauxhawk in 2002.

Although Pogba isn’t one to shirk a bit of peroxide, we’re not used to seeing him with so much hair. That said, it looks wonderful.

Paul Gascoigne (1996)

Long before Pogba set foot in Serie A, Gazza was blazing a trail for midfielders named Paul in Italy’s top flight. By the summer of 1996, he’d left Lazio for Glasgow Rangers and was scoring one of the more memorable goals of his England career.

Again, this Gazza-inspired hairdo is in keeping with Pogba’s penchant for peroxide.

Carlos Valderrama

Ah, Carlos Valderrama… a name that’s always seems to appear in any kind of article about footballers and hairstyles.

Seemingly, the Colombian midfielder came out of the womb with his distinctive blond afro, which was a constant throughout his career.

Alexi Lalas

The flame-haired, guitar-strumming American was one of the most recognisable figures of the 1994 World Cup in the States.

Although Lalas’ flowing ginger locks have made way for a more sensible haircut these days, we’d love to see Pogba give this one a go.

Chris Waddle

Saving the best (probably the worst) until last, here’s Waddle’s ‘party at the back, business up front’ look from the late eighties / early nineties.

It took the former England international a good few years to part with his mullet, and after glimpsing Pogba sporting one in this expertly-edited image, we’re not sure it’ll be making a comeback in Turin any time soon.
