5 things to look out for in the Premier League this weekend

Tom Victor

It’s still early in the Premier League season, but we’re starting to see a few things begin to take shape.

With the first international break coming up after this round of matches, all 20 teams will be keen to either right some early wrongs or just carry on doing what they’re doing.

Here are a few of the things we should be keeping an eye on this weekend.

Will Ander Herrera be rewarded with a start?

After plenty of noise from fans about the Spanish midfielder, he was given 64 minutes against Club Brugge and didn’t put a foot wrong.

Surely he’ll now keep his place as United travel to Swansea? Well, we shouldn’t be so sure.

Louis van Gaal has been known to spring a surprise, and he may look to keep it tight after losing twice to the Swans last season. A recall for the back-from-suspension Marouane Fellaini, perhaps?

Can Bournemouth win two on the bounce?

Last week’s win at West Ham was crucial for Bournemouth, not just for getting them off the mark, but also for showing they had the character to respond after throwing away a two-goal lead.

Back-to-back victories would be huge for the Cherries, but they line up against a Leicester side that has looked surprisingly impressive under new manager Claudio Ranieri.

Both teams have goals in their locker, but the home side can’t afford to be as generous in defence if they want to push on.

Will Southampton suffer from another European hangover?

The added pressure of European competition has been tough for many smaller clubs to handle, and Southampton have felt the effects in the early stages of this season.

They might now be out of the Europa League following their defeat to FC Midtjylland, but the Saints are winless so far this season as a fixture pile-up has taken its toll.

Norwich at home is the sort of game they’d expect to win, but if they fail to do so then questions will be asked.

Can Raheem Sterling announce himself against Watford?

When you arrive at a new club with a huge transfer fee, the bar is set that bit higher.

Raheem Sterling has impressed for Manchester City, leading some to already describe him as the missing piece in the jigsaw, but others will be unhappy until he gets his name on the scoresheet.

The visit of Watford provides the England winger with the perfect opportunity to do just that, and he’ll hope people look back a few months down the line and wonder why anyone ever doubted him.

How easy will it be for John Terry to regain his starting place?

The last two weeks haven’t been the best in John Terry’s career, with the Chelsea captain substituted against Manchester City and sent off against West Brom.

It could be a blessing in disguise for Terry. He misses the game against Crystal Palace, a fixture in which his own goal all but cost the Blues the 2014 title, and it means he won’t be able to test out the theory that bad things happen in threes.

But if Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma impress against the Eagles, could Jose Mourinho be tempted to persist with the younger duo when his captain is available again?
