This has not been a great day for those that follow Arsenal Football Club.
After electing to rest some of his first team stars ahead of their big moves to Manchester other fixtures, Arsene Wenger watched on from the stands as his side lost 4-2 to Nottingham Forest of the Championship.
Clearly, this result was a real punch in the guts for the club’s supporters, coming after consecutive draws against West Brom and Chelsea saw them lose more ground in their race for the top four.
Although Arsenal are in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, it’s looking increasingly likely that the Europa League might end up being the most important competition for them in what’s left of the season. As was the case with Manchester United last season, winning it guarantees a spot in next season’s Champions League – something which could prove very important considering how their league campaign is panning out.
This is, of course, is Arsenal’s first season out of the Champions League in over two decades. They are arguably the highest profile club in the Europa League – something the competition’s social media team know all too well. Much to the annoyance of many an Arsenal fan, they’ve a habit of frequently mentioning the North London club in their tweets.
This was the case in the minutes following the full time whistle at the City Ground, where they felt the need to let the rest of the continent know of Arsenal’s defeat.
