Aaron Ramsey reportedly wants a 200% wage increase to stay at Arsenal

Arsenal are hoping that midfielder Aaron Ramsey will sign a new contract with the club

Aaron Ramsey has had an up and down career at Arsenal. The Wales international joined from Cardiff City in 2008 and was quickly thrown in at the deep end by former manager Arsene Wenger, gaining first team experience and impressing both the fans and his manager alike.

An horrific leg break in 2010 severely stalled his evolution as a footballer, before his breakout season in 2013/14 during which he scored 10 Premier League goals in 23 matches.

His form subsequently dipped at periods after this but his seven goals last season indicated that the 27-year-old remains a valuable player for a top six Premier League club to have.

As such it is no surprise that new Arsenal coach Unai Emery is keen on keeping hold of the Welshman, who is reportedly seeking to double his wages at the Emirates Stadium, where he currently £110,000 per-week.

Ramsey, whose contract at Arsenal expires in the summer of 2019, was reported last month to have agreed a new deal with the club, before his agency – Avid Sports and Entertainment Group – dismissed the news on Twitter.

A report in the Evening Standard suggests that Mesut Ozil’s January contract extension – which took his weekly wages up to £355,000 – have complicated Ramsey’s contract talks, having changed the parameters of what is viewed as a realistic contract offer at the north London club.
