Like something out of little league

High flying AC Milan got off to a dream start against Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon, as Rafael Leao scored after just six seconds, breaking the record for the fastest goal ever scored in Serie A – and in Europe’s top five leagues.

Straight from kick-off, Milan flew forward, catching the home team standing still and cut through the Sassuolo defence with ease, as Hakan Calhanoglu slipped a perfectly placed pass through to Leao, who finished with aplomb, giving the league leaders an early lead.

Starting in place of the injured Zlatan Ibrahimović, Leao scored his first goal since October, before Alexis Saelemaekers doubled their lead on the half hour mark.

Milan are mounting a serious title challenge under Stefano Pioli, playing uncomplicated, direct attacking football. Their closest challengers are currently their local rivals Inter, with whom they share a stadium.

You can never rule out Juventus, who are still in the picture, albeit going through a transitional period under new boss Andrea Pirlo. But it looks as if the Scudetto will be returning to the San Siro one way or another this season.
