After 305 days on the sidelines, Luke Shaw is set to return to action this weekend

A welcome return

For all the fanfare over the big-name signings that Jose Mourinho has already acquired and those that he’s hoping to bring to Old Trafford, Luke Shaw’s return may be the most important addition to the Manchester United matchday squad.

Shaw will certainly feel like a new signing for United, having made just eight appearances last season before a shocking leg break ruled him out of action for ten months.

The left back, who turned 21 just yesterday, is finally fit to play again and is expected to feature in United’s friendly against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Shaw began a promising relationship with Memphis Depay on United’s left flank before a horror challenge from PSV’s Hector Moreno last September cut his season short.

He began easing his way back to full training in April and will likely play in some capacity in Mourinho’s first game as United boss, Shaw’s first match in 305 days.

The former Southampton full back is part of a training squad that is still without players who competed at Euro 2016.

The Red Devils will fly to China next week for their pre-season tour which will include games against Borussia Dortmund and arch-rivals Manchester City before their final tour game against Galatasaray in Sweden.
