Ajax edge past VVV-Venlo with a 13-0 win

Spare a thought for poor, poor Delano van Crooij.

You’ve probably never heard of the guy before, but Van Crooij set a bit of Eredivisie history on Saturday by conceding more goals in a single game than any other goalkeeper to have ever played in the Dutch top flight.

The 29-year-old was beaten 13 times by Ajax, with VVV-Venlo failing to score any at all.

Jurgen Ekkelenkamp had given Ajax the lead after 12 minutes before a brace from Lassina Traore put them in a commanding position. Dusan Tadic added a fourth before half-time to effectively end the contest.

Any faint, faint hopes of a Venlo fightback were well and truly extinguished in the early minutes of the second half, when Christiaan Kum was shown a red card.

And after that, Ajax ran riot.

Traore completed a hat-trick soon after, then assisted Antony for 6-0. Ekkelenkamp added his second and his team’s seventh, then Daley Blind scored an eighth.

Traore added his fourth with 25 minutes left before Klaas Jan Huntelaar to score two to carry Ajax into double figures.

Lisandro Martinez scored the 12th for Ajax before Traore scored his fifth to round off the scoring.

All in all, a day van Crooij will want to forget but probably never will.
