Alan Shearer has hit back at Liverpool fans who levelled “personal abuse” at him and his family on social media.
Shear was a pundit on the BBC’s coverage of Liverpool’s FA Cup third round tie with Everton at Anfield, and his opinion on the home side’s opening goal irked some on the red side of Merseyside.
James Milner scored a penalty in the first-half, after the referee adjudged that Mason Holgate had fouled Adam Lallana. It was arguably a soft penalty, and not too dissimilar to the spot-kick Everton were awarded against Liverpool last month.
Shearer said the penalty in December was the correct decision, but he didn’t feel the ref made the right decision on Friday night.

“Jurgen Klopp was moaning about the soft penalty in the derby last match and if he thought that was soft, then this is soft,” Shearer said.
“Football is a contact sport, you can touch someone without it being a penalty. I don’t think that is a penalty at all. There is no way that is a penalty.”
After the match, Shearer claimed that he had received abuse from some Liverpool fans on social media over his view.
