“I’m an honest guy and I never lie.”
Alexis Sanchez has rubbished suggestions that he was lying when he said it was a childhood dream to play for Manchester United. The Chilean joined the club from Arsenal last month in a swap deal, which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan sign for the Gunners, and he said that he had always wanted to play for United.
Some supporters of rival clubs were critical of Sanchez’s claim. For them, the incredible money on offer – a reported £600,000 a week – was a bigger motivating factor in him choosing United over rivals Manchester City. Yet, during an interview with Sky Sports, Sanchez has dismissed this suggestion, saying that United are “the biggest club in England.”
“I think that Manchester United, since I was young – and I’m not just saying this because I’m here, I’m an honest guy and I never lie – I think it’s the biggest club in England. That’s what I think,” Sanchez said.
“There are lots of big clubs, and having played for Arsenal, they are also one of them. It’s a huge club and I was there. But coming here, looking at the badge, I think United have to win everything because it’s such a big club. The club crest says it all.”
Sanchez also said that he wants to win every trophy possible at United, and that was his main motivation for joining the club.
“I came here to win [things]. I left Arsenal because I wanted to develop and learn as a player, and get to experience a new club. Manchester United are a huge club on the global stage. I came here to win everything. Otherwise I wouldn’t have come here.”
Sanchez scored his first goal for the club in United’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town last weekend.
