Brook secured victory in the sixth round
Kell Brook beat Amir Khan in their long-awaited face-off at the Manchester Arena on Saturday night by a stoppage decision in the sixth round.
The build-up to the fight was slightly overshadowed due to a gloves dispute which saw Brook have to change his gloves inside the ring just seconds before the bout got underway.
Brook made the stronger start of the two as he landed a stiff jab on to Khan, causing the Bolton-born fighter to wobble around the ring.
Despite the early hit, Khan recovered well in the second round and came out all guns blazing in a fight which was fought at a relentless pace.
The third round saw Khan struggle again despite both fighters connecting with each other early on – with Brook’s eye beginning to swell. However, the Sheffield fighter landed with a heavy right hand to leave Khan staggering around the canvas – but it wasn’t enough to be judged as a knockdown.
Round four and five saw Brook began to assert his dominance, especially in the fifth after he was able to work a beautiful combination to allow him to launch a wave of attacks on Khan, who was left visibly hurt and struggling to cope with the power of the 35-year-old.
Round six proved to be the deciding round as Brook came out of the corner flying and launched a series of heavy blows onto Khan before the referee eventually stepped in to stop fight and award Brook the victory.
