Amir Khan wants three fights in 2018 but Billy Joe Saunders doesn’t interest him

Making up for lost time

Amir Khan is looking forward to a busy 2018.

Not since 2011 has Khan fought three times in a calendar year but the 31-year-old intends to take to the ring on three occasions in the coming 12 months, having not fought at all since May 2016.

Khan was brutally knocked out by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez after moving up to middleweight and the Brit has clearly learned his lesson about the importance of size as he insists he has no interest in returning to 160lbs.

‘King’ recently discovered that a possibility existed for a non-title clash with WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, courtesy of Saunders’ promoter Frank Warren.

Warren told Boxing News Online that he would make Saunders vs. Khan “in a heartbeat” but noted that “it couldn’t be for the title though because he’d have to go get a win.”

After an unpopular spell in the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! jungle, Khan remains adamant that he will make his comeback in the early months of next year but he maintains that the Saunders fight is not one which interests him.

Khan claimed that Saunders would be too heavy an opponent before revealing when he hoped to lace up his gloves again.

And while he ruled out Saunders, Khan went on to discuss the fights that would excite him; naming Keith Thurman, Adrien Broner and a rematch with Danny Garcia as options for 2018.
