Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that Robert Lewandowski would have been wearing Chelsea blue if he had had his way.
The likeable Italian was head coach at Stamford Bridge between 2009 and 2011, and led the Blues to a domestic league and cup double in his first season.
Now the 56-year-old has disclosed that he has been a big fan of Bayern Munich’s Polish hotshot for many a year – and sought to bring him to the London club.
“He’s a player that I have always followed, particularly in the first part of his career, when he was at Borussia Dortmund,” Ancelotti told Goal.
“Lewandowski was being followed by many clubs, not just me. But even when I was at Chelsea, I was tracking him.
“Also, while I was at Madrid, but by then he was already going to Bayern, so it was too late.”
Thankfully for Chelsea fans, they ended up signing another world-class striker instead – £50m man Fernando Torres.
