Ander Herrera and Juan Mata seem like really sound lads.
While there were numerous stories coming out of Old Trafford following Louis van Gaal’s sacking in May, we doubt either of the Spanish midfielders were the source of the leak.
Herrera was the first Manchester United player to pay tribute to Ryan Giggs, who is set to depart the club after 29 years.
Giggs signed for United on his 14th birthday, made his first team debut age 17 and finally hung up his boots when he was 40-years-old. The former winger won 13 league titles, four FA Cups, four League Cups and two European Cups, making 963 appearances in total and scoring 168 goals.
The 42-year-old is the most decorated player in British football history, and acted as United caretaker manager at the end of the 2013/14 season, following David Moyes’ dismissal.
Giggs worked as assistant manager for the past two years, and was tipped to be Van Gaal’s successor. However, Jose Mourinho’s appointment meant Giggs was reportedly only offered a youth team coaching role, and the Welshman is now set to make his own way in management.
Herrera paid tribute to his former coach on Twitter on Saturday afternoon, dubbing Giggs a “football legend” and saying it was an honour to learn from such a great of the game.
