Ander Herrera is yet to start for Manchester United in the Premier League this season.
As they maintained their 100% start against Leicester on Saturday afternoon, the Spaniard didn’t even make it off the bench.
The midfielders’s lack of minutes so far this season might well have come as a surprise to United’s supporters. As well as being a firm fans’ favourite at Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho is known to think very highly of him – as he made clear when discussing his role in the Europa League final earlier in the summer.
Chants of Herrera’s name were heard on several occasions during the 2-0 victory over Craig Shakespeare’s name, often emanating in Old Trafford’s J Stand.
Clearly, the support has been well received by Herrera himself, as was shown by the 28-year-old’s reply to an Instagram video.
Presumably taken on Saturday, the video, shared by Scott Wrigley, features United fans belting out the Herrera song on the J Stand concourse.
A special flag, inspired by the Estrella reference in Herrera’s song, can also be seen in the video.
As has been pointed out by many United fans in the time since, Herrera has responded to the video, thanking United’s fans for their support.
United’s next fixture comes after the international break when they travel to the Bet365 to face Stoke City.
