The panel discussed their experiences of bad injuries and the tough road to recovery on this week’s Liquid Football
After a chaotic weekend of football, the goals and gaffes felt almost irrelevant on Monday in the aftermath of Everton midfielder Andre Gomes’ horrific ankle injury which looks set to keep him sidelined the for rest of the season.
The Portuguese suffered the unfortunate injury after being tripped by Tottenham winger Heung-min Son, who was visibly distraught to have caused such a traumatic injury.
On this week’s episode of Liquid Football, Wayne Bridge, Luis Garcia and Wes Brown discussed the challenges faced by both the injured player and the players around him at the time.
Bridge recalled breaking his ankle during his illustrious career as a marauding left-back, being warned by the surgeon that his football career might have been over, saying he “Struggled to be around the lads and see everyone kicking a ball around.”
"I struggled to be around the lads and see everyone running around kicking a football."

Wes Brown discussed the impact of former Leeds and Manchester United forward Alan Smith’s leg break, suffered in a match against Liverpool. Brown lamented that Smith was not the same player upon his return from that injury, while also recalling how the first concern of every player on the pitch was Smith’s wellbeing.
Luis Garcia was playing for Liverpool that day.
“Everyone was looking at each other,” the Spaniard said.
“You never want something to happen to a player like this,” he added.
The panel also expressed their sympathy with Son, who was visibly affected by the injury.
“The way Son behaves on and off the pitch, you can see he was devastated when he was on the field, in tears,” Garcia said.
