We’ll forgive him for his poor geography, the sentiment is what counts
Liverpool and AC Milan legends came together to put on a show at Anfield on Saturday to raise money for the LFC Foundation. Their legs might have gone a bit, but there was still plenty of class on show as Liverpool emerged victorious – just as they did back in 2005 – thanks to late heroics from none other than Steven Gerrard.
Fans were also treated to a passing masterclass from Andrea Pirlo, who recently hung up his boots after a glittering career of strolling about, pinging Hollywood passes and scoring free-kicks.
After the game, Pirlo paid tribute to the wonderful city of Liverpool with by mimicking its second best export after Gerrard: The Beatles.
Pirlo, with his former Milan teammates Gennaro Gattuso, Massimo Oddo and Massimo Ambrosini, recreated the cover of famous Beatles album Abbey Road, as the Italian quartet crossing at a zebra crossing.

Pirlo captioned the photo with ‘It’s been a hard day’s night’, alluding to the Beatle’s song from a different album, presumably implying that playing 90 minutes of football was really fucking hard work.
Now, you will probably be thinking thoughts like ‘Abbey Road is in London, what an idiot’ and ‘A Hard Day’s Night isn’t even on Abbey Road, what an idiot’. And while you’e be right, in instances like these we must forgive Pirlo for his geographical ignorance and just appreciate the gesture.
He also scored a free kick – of course he did – during the legends friendly on Saturday. Prime Pirlo would have probably lifted it higher into the top corner, and a prime Jerzey Dudek might have stopped this, but again, let’s just appreciate the artistry, even if it’s not what it once was.
