Andreas Pereira has had a spectacular start to his season

Pereira, a 22-year-old Belgium-born midfielder – appears to have broken into the Manchester United first team, starting the Red Devils’ first match of the Premier League season against Leicester City and impressing in the number six role.

He had previously spent the past two seasons on loan in La Liga, with Granada and Valencia respectively, before playing something of a starring role during Jose Mourinho’s side’s pre-season tour in the United States.

Pereira has always been highly considered by those in football but his recent emergence has led to increased awareness of his talents and on Friday led to Brazil manager Tite calling him up to the country’s national team squad for the first team.

There had been questions over whether he would declare for for the country of his birth or Brazil, for whom he played youth team football at under-20 and under-23 level.

He had previously played under-15, under-16 and under-17 football for Belgium.
