Angel Di Maria blames Louis van Gaal for Manchester United exit

Simon Lloyd

Manchester United’s record signing Angel Di Maria has blamed Louis van Gaal for his short-lived stay at the club.

After admitting that his philosophy was one of the things that attracted him to Old Trafford in the first place, Di Maria told ESPN Radio that adapting to it had become a problem and spoke of his frustration of being played out of position.

Now with Paris Saint Germain, the Argentine claimed that his sooner-than-expected departure from England was down to a couple of run-ins with the Dutchman.

“It was difficult to adapt to Van Gaal’s workings. I had a couple of run-ins with him,” he said.

“It started well for me but then I got injured. When I came back, Van Gaal changed my position. When I spoke to PSG coach Laurent Blanc he said he’d play me in the position I had for Real Madrid.”

Di Maria made his debut for his new club in a 3-0 victory over Monaco. Despite not scoring, he still managed to lay on an impressive assist for countryman Ezequiel Lavezzi.
