Angel Di Maria has described his time at Manchester United as a “sad experience”.
Despite a dismal season under David Moyes, Manchester United signed Di Maria from Real Madrid just months after the Argentine had been named man of the match in the Champions League final.
Di Maria’s form dipped after a promising start to his United career and he featured less frequently towards the end of the season. In summer, he was on the move again, sold to French champions, Paris Saint-Germain.
“Manchester was a sad experience. Things did not go the way I expected,” he told L’Equipe.
“I was disappointed and I could not surface.
“Honestly, I don’t remember what happened and I don’t want to remember.”
Having made the move to the French capital, Di Maria believes he is rediscovering some of the form he showed during his final year with Real Madrid. Once again, he has his eyes set on Champions League glory.
“My last season at Real was very good too – it’s in the same vein. Every day here I feel better and better integrated into the team, the club and the city and that’s reflected in my performances.
“With the way we play, the fame of the players in the team, I think we have everything to go to the [Champions League] final.”
If they are to reach the final, they must firstly overcome Chelsea – who they face in the first knock out round of this year’s competition, with the first leg taking place in Paris on February 16.
