Being a goalkeeper is not easy.
In occupying this position, you’re accepting that you’re the last line of defence and that from time to time, you’ll make costly mistakes.
Sam Beasant knows this as well as anyone. The Braintree Town ‘keeper is the son of Dave Beasant, who enjoyed a long career between the sticks of several clubs including Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Southampton and Wimbledon.
This weekend, his side faced a trip to Southport in the Vanarama National League. Although his side would end up on the right end of a 5-4 thriller (not the only one this weekend), the nature of one of Southport’s goals will have left Beasant a little red-faced.
As the video below shows, a ball is played back to Beasant by a teammate. Having decided he’s got time to take a touch, a Southport player swiftly closes him down. As he attempt to send the ball down the field, his kick canons straight off his opponent’s foot and into the goal.
Despite a thrilling 5-4 win over @southport_fc, @braintreetownfc's keeper Sam Beasant might want to look away now 🙈 https://t.co/6zuvuFrFaN

Who’d be a goalkeeper, eh?
Not too far from Southport, Loris Karius endured his own embarrassing moment at Anfield, although his didn’t end up in his side conceding a goal.
