The deal is considered to be a ‘major coup’
Anthony Joshua is set to confirm this week that he is ending his contract with Sky Sports and joining DAZN, who will become the exclusive place to see his fights.
As reported by the Telegraph, the two-time heavyweight world champion will leave Sky Sports after nine years as their pay-per-view star and move to the sports streaming service, who are becoming more and more influential in the digital era of sports entertainment.
It is understood that the deal will be a multi-year, multi-fight deal with Joshua expected to have a minimum of two fights a year as DAZN look to build their reputation as the go-to place for the biggest fights in boxing.
The deal is also rumoured to be an estimated nine-figure US dollar deal, which could earn the 32-year-old hundreds of millions of dollars.
Joshua’s first fight that is expected to be broadcasted on DAZN is his highly-anticipated rematch against Oleksandr Usyk in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on either August 13 or 20. Both the date and venue are set to be confirmed this week.
The former Olympic champion is going in search of winning back the IBF, WBA and WBO titles from the Ukrainian after he was beaten at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September, 2021.
There is also hopes from the broadcaster that they will be able to lure Tyson Fury out of retirement to fight the winner. Reports on Saturday had said that Fury had agreed to take on the winner in Qatar the night before the World Cup Final in Qatar, but the ‘Gypsy King’ denied those claims, exclusively revealing to JOE that it was “all rubbish.”
