It’s all change at Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal’s two-year stay as Manchester United manager is over, and Jose Mourinho’s appointment appears imminent.
On top of this, speculation is also rife that Mourinho’s arrival at United will also see the club sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The 34-year-old has recently left Paris Saint-Germain and is yet to announce his next club. Having worked with Mourinho at Inter, many suggest the pair are set for a reunion in Manchester.
If Zlatan does wear red next season, it appears his arrival will also spark a few shirt number changes in the United squad.
A report in Sun Sport claims that United have all but agreed a deal for the Swede and suggests that he’ll be given the number nine shirt upon his arrival.
Anthony Martial is the current owner of the United number nine shirt, having worn it since completing his big-money move from Monaco last summer. The report suggests that the Frenchman will instead be given United’s famous number seven shirt.
What this means for Memphis Depay, United’s current number seven, is unclear. The Dutchman has failed to live up to expectation after arriving from PSV Eindhoven last summer and some are suggesting his future at Old Trafford is uncertain.
