It’s funny to think that the name Anthony Martial meant so little to Manchester United supporters just a few months ago.
After a debut goal against Liverpool, the young Frenchman has quickly become a fan-favourite at Old Trafford, adding more goals in the performances that have followed.
Although the injury he sustained against England at Wembley earlier this week will keep him out of United’s visit to Watford, Martial has found time to talk about his favourite players.
Quoted in the Daily Mail, Martial names two Brazilians and one of his countrymen as his top three players.
“My three favourite players were Ronaldo, the Brazilian, Ronaldinho and Zidane because they’re players who were beautiful to watch play and they’re ones who made me want to play football.”
He also discusses his admiration for Barcelona during the time Pep Guardiola was their manager.
“I Â think the best team I’ve seen play is Barca during Pep Guardiola’s time,” he revealed. “I loved their game philosophy. They had great players in every position and it really made you want to play football when you watched them play.”
While some will might use this as an opportunity to link Martial with a move to the Nou Camp at some point in the future, United fans can rest easy. Referring to the atmosphere within Old Trafford on match days, he praised the club’s supporters for helping him settle in Manchester.
“The atmosphere at Old Trafford is really unique and when you’re a bit tired, they really help you, they shout out your name and that gives you extra energy. It is also because of them that I’ve adapted easily to Manchester.”
