Anthony Martial’s family are ‘frightened’ by his Manchester United move

Concerns over massive fee

A week ago, few people in this country would have been able to tell you anything about Anthony Martial.

How quickly things change. This week, the nineteen-year-old is Manchester United’s new number nine and the most expensive teenager the game has ever seen.

Many have been quick to point out that such a large fee brings plenty of pressure to perform for the young Frenchman. Speaking from French football’s headquarters at Clairefontaine, Martial acknowledged that his family have already expressed their own misgivings about the amount of money that has been invested in him.

“My family are very happy for me. They are a bit frightened because of the amount of money but I stay in my bubble. I just want to prove my value to Manchester United,” he told reporters.

He also goes on to acknowledge his own surprise at the financial details of his move.

“I don’t know if I’m worth 80m Euros. I am only going for the sporting side. It is quite crazy for a player of my age but that is the market,” he added.

Very little is known of United’s surprise new signing, but a baptism of fire awaits the youngster should he be given his debut in United’s next fixture – Liverpool’s visit to Old Trafford.
