It continues…
Antonio Conte showed no signs of a ceasefire in the war of words between himself and José Mourinho today.
In his press conference before Wednesday’s EFL Cup clash against Arsenal, the Chelsea boss insisted that he has no regrets over comments made about Mourinho in recent weeks. The Italian said: “Do I have this look of someone who regrets? I don’t think so.”
The feud between the two managers began when Conte responded to one of Mourinho’s vintage antagonistic comments about other coaches complaining about injuries. The spat continued, with quite personal insults flying each way, including a match-fixing jibe at Conte, who responded by calling Mourinho a ‘little man’.
The Chelsea manager reiterated that the feud needn’t resolve itself before the two teams meet next, on February 25th. He explained that it’s personal, not a matter of club rivalry:
“It’s not a problem for the club, it’s a problem between me and him.”
“He said serious words and I won’t forget this.”
Mourinho seems to have found a new rival to engage in verbal warfare. There is certainly no love lost between the two managers. The fact that Conte won the title with a squad that had downed tools under Mourinho the season before will only add fuel to the fire.
Don’t expect to see handshakes when the teams next meet at Old Trafford.
