Antonio Conte is expected to leave Inter Milan by mutual consent after just one season with the club, having fallen out with the board.
Conte is frustrated with the board’s ‘soft’ management and the lack of assurances they are giving him with regards to summer transfer activity.
Following Inter’s 2-0 away win over Atalanta in their final league game of the season, the manager did not hide his feelings towards the Inter hierarchy, saying: “I’m going to have to talk to the president.
“There was no protection, if you are weak it is difficult to protect the team and the coach.”
Inter want Conte, who has two years left on his deal, to stay put.
Italian based journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that only a decisive presidential intervention could heal the fracture, which seems unlikely.
Conte’s Inter challenged for the title this season finishing just one point behind Juventus, who secured their ninth consecutive Scudetto.
The former Chelsea boss wants reinforcements this summer in the hope of dethroning his old club. It has been reported that Conte wants to keep Alexis Sanchez on a permanent deal, and sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, who has struggled for fitness and form in his first season in England.
If he does not get assurances of that level of investment, he is likely to walk, with Max Allegri, who succeeded him at Juventus, expected to step in.
Conte leaving Inter could throw a spanner in the works in the Sanchez saga, with Manchester United keen to offload the Chilean forward permanently. Should Allegri come in, it is less likely that he will want to keep the 31-year-old and he could then end up back at Old Trafford.
