The final nail appears to be on the cusp of being hammered into the Antoine Griezmann-to-Manchester-United-this-summer coffin.
Having seemed certain to move to Old Trafford only a couple of days ago, developments on Thursday left the French international’s move from Atletico Madrid in severe doubt.
First, it was leaked to the press that United had cooled their interest in Griezmann and were more concerned with securing the signature of a top striker. Then, Atletico were hit with a transfer ban, leaving them with no chance of signing a replacement for the 26-year-old. That same afternoon, Griezmann appeared to commit his future to the club with a post on his social media accounts.
Now, according to reports over in Spain, Griezmann is set to follow this by inking a new offer from his the Spanish club.
Although he is aware that Atletico will not be bringing in any new players this summer, AS claim that Griezmann is happy to remain at the club and help it to attract the likes of Diego Costa, Vitolo and Sandro when the ban is lifted in January and has accepted the offer that was made to him three weeks ago.
Beyond January, it’s still unclear if Griezmann’s move to Manchester can be resurrected in summer 2018. By then, there’s every chance United might have moved on.
