While some are touting them as title contenders, Tottenham’s Champions League campaign hasn’t really got off to the smoothest of starts.
Although they won their second match away at CSKA Moscow, defeat at ‘home’ to Monaco in their first match and a draw away at Bayer Leverkusen in their third match have left qualification for the last 16 far from certain.
With the German side at Wembley on Wednesday night, things got worse for Spurs. Having failed to get going in the first half, Leverkusen got themselves in front in front after the break. A deflected shot fell kindly in the area for German-born Slovenian Kevin Kampl, who nudged the ball into Hugo Lloris’ goal.
The goal proved to be the winner, leaving Spurs’ hopes of progression from he group hanging by a thread.
With the North London derby looming, supporters of Arsenal – who watched their side seal qualification for the last 16 just 24 hours ago – found it all quite amusing. Especially seeing as the scorer of crucial goal had a name that sounds an awful lot like a former Arsenal striker…
Kevin Campbell?
