Yesterday was a great day for Arsenal players involved at Euro 2016.
Their heavily-hyped new signing Granit Xhaka was awarded Man of the Match in Switzerland’s 1-1 draw with Romania, while Laurent Koscielny was part of the defence that kept a clean sheet for France in their last-minute victory over Albania.
And let’s not forget Olivier Giroud who, well, Olivier Giroud certainly played, and that was seemingly worthy of a mention on Arsenal’s official Twitter account.
The club have been keeping fans up to date with the progress of the various Gunners in the tournament, but their reference to Giroud’s “appearance” had an accidental ring of sarcasm to it, after the striker was hauled off in the 77th minute having squandered a number of chances.

It was only after Giroud’s substitution that France went on to score the two goals that sent them through to the knockout stages, with Antoine Griezmann and Dimitri Payet stepping up as heroes for the hosts.
Giroud did manage to find the back of the net in the opening game against Romania, but his failure to convert numerous chances has frustrated fans of Les Bleus.
Unsurprisingly, Arsenal’s decision to praise the forward for literally just being on the pitch backfired spectacularly on social media.

Hardly man of the match. Appearance for Giroud? Seriously? What's on the menu today? Ramsey's hair? Wilshere took a corner?
