Football, or soccer as it is known across the pond, has grown a huge amount in the United States of America in recent years. Proper fan bases are creating proper atmospheres, some of which Premier League fans should be envious of. It’s no longer a sport that kids play at school, it’s now well on its way to being considered in the same bracket as NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB.

However, America is still America and Major League Soccer will suffer the consequences of that. For example, Atlanta United, current holders of the MLS Cup and wider cultural phenomenon, have had to move a Champions League tie that was supposed to be held at their Mercedes Benz Stadium because of a Monster Truck event.

Monster Trucks.

Other than institutional racism, capitalism and school shootings, can you think of anything more American.

Instead, the match will be held at the Fifth Third Bank Stadium, where the Kennesaw State Owls men’s football team play their home matches.

The Atlanta players don’t seem too pleased by this news, understandably.

“I don’t want to lie because I’m not good at math or statistics, but I think when we play at home we win 90 percent of our games. We play at the Mercedes-Benz stadium, not at Kennesaw (Fifth Third Bank Stadium). So we are not ready, “said Venezuelan striker Josef Martinez, as per ‘Costa Rica Hoy‘.

Atlanta face Mexican side CF Monterrey in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League, with the first leg taking place on March 5 at the BBVA Bancomer Stadium.
