The club are set to compete in the Champions League in Lisbon later this week
FC Barcelona have confirmed that one of their footballers has tested positive for coronavirus after tests were carried out on a number of players.
According to the club, who confirmed the news on Wednesday, the player who tested positive has not been in contact with the rest of the squad currently preparing to compete in Portugal.
The club carried out Covid-19 tests on nine players on Tuesday – Oriol Busquets, Pedri, Trincao, Matheus Fernandes, Jean-Clair Todibo, Moussa Wague, Carles Alena, Rafinha and Juan Miranda – though none are part of the Champions League squad.
All of the players tested are set to return for pre-season training this month, and are not currently training alongside the main squad, which is due to travel to the Portuguese capital on Thursday.
Quique Setien’s side sealed their qualification for the mini-tournament ending to the tournament last weekend with a 3-1 home victory over Napoli. They will meet in-form German champions Bayern Munich in the one-off quarter-final on Friday.
The confirmation of a case in the Barca squad comes two days after two Atletico Madrid players – forward Angel Correa and right-back Sime Vrsaljko – also tested positive for the virus.
Both players have been left out of Diego Simeone’s squad ahead of his team’s quarter-final with Red Bull Leipzig on Thursday.
