Barcelona’s club motto is “Mes que un club”, or “More than a club”
While some people suggest that such a motto is more a marketing tool than an actual club ethos, Barcelona do – in general – attempt to instill their youth players with certain values from a young age.
Those values, such as respect and humility, were evident this weekend as the club’s under-13 side played in the Junior Soccer World Challenge in Osaka, Tokyo.
The Catalan side would go on to win the tournament as a whole, defeating Arsenal 3-1, but it was their act of consoling the distraught and defeated opposition earlier in the tournament that has endeared them to fans.
After defeating FC Persimmon in the quarter-finals, Barca’s young stars put aside their own joy to console their heartbroken opponents.
