Creativity appears to be in short supply in the Manchester United dressing room.
Since arriving in Manchester in the summer, Bastian Schweinsteiger’s United teammates appear to have grown tired of his traditional nickname – ‘Basti’ – and has been given a new one.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the 31-year-old, who has featured as more of a sub rather than a starter for Louis van Gaal this season, has been labelled as ‘Mr Calm’ due to the serene distribution and presence he brings to proceedings when on the field.
He was outstanding in the closing stages of Saturday’s game against Liverpool, while his passing and tackling have also been on point so far this campaign.
The German has yet to register a shot on target this season, but his passing percentage is in the high 80s, while he has only picked up a single yellow card in seven outings.
The nickname isn’t quite up there with ‘Trigger’ in the memorable stakes, but in terms of describing the former Bayern man’s influence, it’s a good enough fit.
